‘Major Crimes’ season 4, episode 17 review: Finding Kayla Weber and more
As “Major Crimes” starts to near the end of the fall part of season 4, we’re reminded yet again that you can’t always be a winner, even if you have the right intentions and certainly the right amount of effort. “#FindKaylaWeber” had its fair share of humorous moments here and there, but in the end the story doesn’t exactly have us feeling that good.
After all, how could it when the woman at the center of the search turns out to be dead? It’s the sort of story that is necessary for a show like this to tell from time to time for the sake of realism, but that does not make it particularly easy to write about. At least the story was handled well, with complicated guest characters and the high-profile nature of Kayla’s search adding to the drama.
Speaking of drama, we certainly had that in spades for Rusty in this episode. First, the whole court situation with Slider was turning out to be more and more of a disaster, given that it really doesn’t matter whether or not the man is proclaiming innocence at the moment. Also, it looks like not much is going to become of Rusty and Gus as a prospective couple, mostly because the feelings are one-sided.
In the end here, Rusty also failed to have a win … for now. We’ll have to see if that holds up moving into the next episode, but for now the feeling of loss seems reasonably universal. Sometimes, it just hits people in different ways. Grade: B-.
