‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17 spoilers: More details on winter premiere
Remember the days when “Law & Order: SVU” would release rather robust synopses for some of their upcoming episodes? It really doesn’t feel like it was all that long ago, but in what is a slightly-new trend for the show, they have more recently opted for a little more secrecy in what is coming up on each episode.
Take, for example, the just-released synopsis for January 6’s “Catfishing Teacher.” While we are grateful to have at least a few teases regarding what is coming up, it’s hardly going to inform you about everything that happens:
“A high school student plans a clandestine hookup with his female teacher but ends up in a far more sinister situation.”
Is this going to be the episode that finds Olivia Benson in particular in a great deal of peril? We’ve already heard via the show’s executive producer that there will be an episode that puts Mariska Hargitay’s character in a terrible amount of danger, perhaps the most since her interactions with William Lewis. It is certainly possible based on the information that we have right now that this episode may be when we start to see that happen. If not, it should happen early in the new year.
As for the student’s actions to try to meet up with his teacher, it’s everything that you would expect from an episode of “SVU”: It’s dangerous, relevant, and there also be a few twists along the way to keep you from being able to completely predict everything that is going to be taking place.
We imagine we’ll have much more on this episode in some form before it airs, so be on the lookout!

Julie Martin made a comment on Twitter that she loves the Rollins family saga. That makes ONE! Most of us are fed up watching Amanda Rollins turn into a puddle of Stupidity every time her sister Kim shows up. A beautiful intelligent woman(and Detective) becomes the most ridiculously ignorant moron when sister Kim is in the show. The sister that Amanda ended up getting raped trying to protect, the sister who looted Amanda’s entire apartment and framed for her boyfriend’s murder. At least Kim is in jail(for the moment.) I don’t think the writers would ever let Lt. Benson be displayed as ludicrously as they display Detective. Rollins, but we’ll see.

I know NBC can’t resist turning SVU into “The Mariska Hargitay show” but let’s hope that they keep it as much about SVU as possible. Let’s hope NBC starts working on all the behind the scenes problems(like finding a new show runner) ASAP so the fans can hear that the show has been renewed by no later than February.
