Ratings: ‘Supergirl’ steady, ‘Scorpion’ up, and Adele concert dominates on NBC (12/14/2015)
Holiday concert events are typically the sort of thing that networks just put on the air for the sake of filling a spot. They don’t want to air new episodes of their own shows close to Christmas, and these for the most part are relatively inexpensive to make and also are mutually beneficial for both the network and the artist featured.
Winners – For Adele on NBC, it is beyond easy to consider what we saw a win. The “Live in New York City” concert event drew a 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is the biggest rating for any sort of concert event in this measure in over ten years. In terms of total viewers, more than 11 million watched. This special benefited probably from airing after the first part of the finale of “The Voice,” but to go along with this, it’s also Adele. She is the most famous performer on the planet right now, and we’re not even sure a Taylor Swift concert event on NBC would draw these sort of ratings. Her talent and her passion are universal.
Elsewhere, the most notable highlight is the rise in “Scorpion” to a 1.9. Also, “Jane the Virgin” kept a 0.4 rating for its midseason finale.
Losers – Bad news for everyone who enjoys “Supergirl”: The ratings aren’t improving. The change from last week is minimal, but it is still a 1.5 rating. This is higher only slightly than the 1.4 rating we saw for “NCIS: Los Angeles,” and the Melissa Benoist series has higher expectations than a procedural in its seventh season. It does have a full season of 20 episodes, but we probably won’t know until May its season 2 status.

Content-wise it’s not, but I’m looking more at how it’s lost about half of its demo audience and recent episodes have only been a tick above The Flash on The CW. I want it to succeed as well, but have to point out worrying trend.

But when its the best rated superhero show and best rated new show on CBS. I think we are fine. Its also has potential to WW success and netflix deals. Its a show about the cousin of the biggest superhero there is.
