‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: Show boss further explains underworld concept
At the end of the “Once Upon a Time” winter finale Sunday night, we got our first real glimpse at the underworld. We know that this is a strange, mysterious place, and one that will contain a wide array of dead characters. Barbara Hershey (Cora), Robbie Kay (Peter Pan), and Victoria Smurfit (Cruella) are just some of the actors who will be returning in the second half of the season, as the show has come up with such a unique way to bring people back from the dead.
For the longest time our theory was that the underworld was meant to be hell, a place where all of the bad people went judging from some of the people who were present there. However, executive producer Adam Horowitz teases to The Hollywood Reporter that in reality, the place is a little bit more complicated than that:
“It’s not hell. The underworld isn’t hell — it is a place between. It’s the place for people with unfinished business, so it’s not about good or evil.”
As for just how much more complicated than this it is, we’ll just have to wait and see. We know that there is a character in “The Distinguished Gentleman” who could end up being Hades, or some other person who is helping to lead the community. Yet, during the promo at the end of this past episode we ended up seeing Cora in the Mayor’s seat almost like she was set to reign supreme.
Unfortunately, the wait until March 6 is still a rather long ways away…
