‘Scream Queens’ season 2: On renewal odds, story possibilities for Emma Roberts – Lea Michele show
Tonight, Fox will be saying farewell to “Scream Queens” for the time being, but is it really the end of the road for the show? This is a complicated question to answer, and there are really two schools of thought all about it.
Let’s start by looking at what are the current odds of the show coming back in terms of the ratings: Not good. This is a series that has struggled to maintain a 1.0 as of late in the 18-49 demographic, which puts it only slightly ahead of “Sleepy Hollow” and the more-or-less-canceled “Minority Report” on their lineup. That is also not great when you consider the show’s heft cast, which includes Lea Michele, Emma Roberts, and many other big names.
If there is a silver lining, it is that Ryan Murphy shows tend to be very popular both in live+3 and live+7 measures, and also internationally. There’s also enough of a distinction with this show that, like “American Horror Story,” it could bring in viewers from one season to the next. (The main difference here is that there will be the same characters every season, albeit in a different setting with some new faces sprinkled in.)
One of the early rumors had the show going to a Summer Camp, and we could certainly see this. They’ll want to do something that appeals to a wide range of viewers, and also something where you can have both humor and horror mixed in at the same time.
Our personal suggestion for the future of the series is rather simple: Scoot it over to the summer. There’s less competition there, and you may be able to get some new people checking it out.
We’ll have more reaction to the show’s season finale soon enough, but for the time being head over here to get some other news related to “Scream Queens”! Also, you can sign up over here to score some further updates on all we cover, sent right to you via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Fox.)
