‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12, episode 7 preview: Is Meredith coming between Penny, Callie?

The moment that Penny agreed to work at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, she had to know that there would be some conflict between her and Callie … and that is before she realized that she would be working in such close proximity to the widow of Derek Shepherd.

The sneak peek below for Thursday night’s new episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” is for the most part a perfect portrait into just how awkward and complicated things have become with these characters. For Penny, she wants to do the best work that she can, but is quickly learning that this hospital is not even close to a stable work environment for her. Meredith is giving her tasks that are menial and not at the level of what someone with her experience should be doing.

However, it is not Penny who is calling her out on it; instead, it’s Callie. Clearly, Sara Ramirez’s character is getting very protective of her girlfriend, and feels like she is being terribly mistreated as a result. It’s easy to feel for Callie here, since she wants to see her flourish. However, Penny does not want Callie to try to fight her battles for her, even though at the same time she realizes that she is right with the vast majority of what she is saying.

We’ll be back tomorrow with some further reaction to this episode, including whether or not Penny and Meredith manage to figure out the dynamics of their working relationship.
