‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9 spoilers: Bob Newhart poised to return

Newhart -

For all of those who love Professor Proton, rejoice! Bob Newhart is set to make at least one more return on “The Big Bang Theory.”

Sources confirm that the legendary sitcom star will appear in the upcoming December 17, which is the one that will be inspired in part by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” It will also serve as the midseason finale. We imagine that Sheldon will be at a particularly vulnerable time in his life, and as a result of that, he could consult none other than the ghost of his childhood hero otherwise known as Arthur Jeffries for a little bit of help.

Admittedly, we find ourselves at times torn on whether or not we should see Jeffries on the show anymore, mostly because the death of the character was a touch of finality that Sheldon often does not have. Yet, we understand why bringing him back almost in an Obi-Wan Kenobi sort of way is a great tie-in to “Star Wars,” and it is the sort of thing that Sheldon would have on his mind more than likely.

It is very well possible that this episode could be the one to help tie a bow around some of the story surrounding Sheldon / Amy and the flux in their relationship … but that is just mere speculation. The show may just be feeling like this is the right time to transition into something different. We’ll have to wait and see.
