TV Quick Hits: More ‘Mysteries of Laura’; ‘Shades of Blue’ trailer; ‘Gotham’ alum’s new pilot

Mysteries -More “Mysteries of Laura” – We’ll start this article with good news for everyone who loves “The Mysteries of Laura” and Debra Messing: You are getting at least three more episodes of the show’s second season. This news was confirmed by Deadline, which puts the overall season 2 order at 16.

The ratings for this show are not out of the park by any means, but it continues to be steady and doesn’t really ever change much from week to week. We almost wonder if NBC should move the show to a ratings trouble spot for them (maybe Friday nights, or Sunday after the NFL season ends) just to get some sort of consistency in a place that they are not known for much. It could eventually be like “Blue Bloods” then, which sticks around despite lower demo ratings because it draws so many viewers as a whole.

Shades of Blue” trailer – The upcoming Jennifer Lopez series is premiering with a two-hour episode early next year, and the full trailer below makes the show out to be, at least for the most part, what we anticipated it to be: Namely, gritty and very plot-driven. We’re still not sure when it airs that it will be all that different than any other cop show on TV, but obviously NBC has some confidence that Lopez’s name and a familiar genre will bring in viewers.

Jada Pinkett Smith’s new pilot – Fresh off of her role as Fish Mooney on “Gotham,” The Hollywood Reporter claims that Smith has signed on to appear in a pilot for “Murder Town,” a show that will feature her as the first African-American District Attorney in the town of Wilmington, Delaware. This will be a story about a series of complicated cases, including one about her murdered husband that could devastate the entire community. It’s hard to say much more without at least seeing a trailer or knowing if it will be picked up to series.
