‘Empire’ season 2 spoilers: What’s next for Laz and Cookie?

On this past episode of “Empire” season 2, it was pretty clear that Cookie may have found a new man in her life courtesy of Adam Rodriguez’s role of Laz. He is someone who is completely different than Lucious, he has passion for her, and he may be able to help her in many ways that we have not quite seen from Lucious himself.

Does that mean that the two are primed at all to be a good couple? Unfortunately, we cannot go so far as to say that yet. There’s just not enough evidence out there. What we do know is that they have something going now that is new, interesting, and organic, and watching that play out along with the evolution of Lyon Dynasty will be fascinating. As Rodriguez tells The Hollywood Reporter in a new interview, eventually there will be a point where we do see the two of them have to figure out whether or not the relationship is more important than the business, or if making money is the far more important priority:

“At some point, you have to decide what’s most important to you. Some people are about love. Some people are about ambition. And some people realize they’re about one thing more than the other and sometimes they realize that in time and sometimes they realize that too late.”

Ultimately, we do think that these two are probably not meant to go the distance, given that Rodriguez is a busy man and we can’t see “Empire” wanting to pull someone away from Lucious forever. Still, we feel like this could be a fun subplot to watch in the weeks ahead.
