Donald Trump’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ gig still planned thanks to further protests

SNL -This weekend’s new episode of “Saturday Night Live” will continue to be hosted by Donald Trump, and at this point, it clearly does not seem to matter what protesters say in the eyes of NBC.

Outside of 30 Rockefeller Plaza this week (where the show tapes, and where rehearsals have been held), there have been frequent protests from many political groups, with many specifically calling on the network to end the hosting gig. At this point, it’s not happening. There would not be time to bring in a new host and change things up with all of the sketches.

Clearly, the network is thinking here from a ratings-first perspective, and given that it is a business, we’re not altogether shocked by that. We will not be watching the episode through the lens of whether or not this episode will be controversial or political. Instead, we’re thinking more along the lines of whether or not it will be funny. That is what the jury is still out on. The last thing that we want to see is it crammed with a variety of cupcake-sketches that don’t really skewer Trump’s campaign in the slightest, much in the same way the show went relatively easy on Hillary Clinton when she appeared. This is a show meant to be edgy, so we want them to go for the jugular with every candidate. Otherwise, why have them there?

We feel like there’s going to be plenty of sketches on the show that do not even feature Trump. Therefore, there is an incentive to watch even if you don’t like him.
