‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12, episode 6 reaction: Are Meredith and Penny on solid ground?
The last episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” did not exactly end on the most stable footing for Meredith Grey, given that she learned that Penny, the very doctor who is responsible for the death of Derek, was heading to the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after her old hospital shut down.
So how did she handle it Thursday night? It felt almost like her going through the stages of grief all over again. At first, she tried to push through the pain; then, she lashed out, and after that she learned from Dr. Webber that he was well aware of where she worked prior to being hired at the hospital. The only black mark on her resume was what happened to Derek, and the fact that this did not give him pause likely puts a deep wound into the relationship that the two had, something that had only started to strengthen more because of Maggie.
At the end of the episode, things did start to stabilize somewhat for Meredith by the end of the episode, but we cannot imagine that she is out of the woods yet. Our favorite moment of the hour may just be her and Alex looking to faith for answers, something that we do not always see on the show. The person who may be handling Penny harder is Amelia, but as per usual on this show, her feelings are almost a reflection of her screen time relative to Dr. Grey.
Were there other events in this episode? Sure, including a case that rocketed the tension between Jackson and April to another level. Still, this is largely Meredith’s story, and seeing how she would tackle the Penny problem was imperative moving into the week.
