TV Quick Hits: ‘Dr. Ken’ gets full season; ‘Black Sails’ season 3 casting news; ‘Gilmore Girls’ rumors
More “Dr. Ken” – Given its recent ratings, we have an easy time figuring out why ABC gave themselves a prescription for more “Dr. Ken” moving forward.
Today, the network confirmed the glorious news for fans of Ken Jeong. It has kept the entire lead-in from “Last Man Standing” most weeks, which is something that even “Cristela” last year struggled with. We think that while many critics have been hard on the show, it does represent that traditional sitcom that so many people still enjoy watching: It’s a little edgy and not politically correct, and in an age where everything is entirely PC, there are probably some out there who connect to it. We’ll see how “Dr. Ken” handles the additional love moving forward into the spring.
“Black Sails” casting news – Looking forward to the return of the pirate drama next year? Then this little bit of news may be enough to liven up your day. Thanks to a new featurette uncovered by SpoilerTV, it has been revealed that Luke Roberts (“Wolf Hall,” “Taxi Brooklyn”) has signed up for the part of Woodes Rogers. There is a lot to look forward to with the new season, but it’s going to be really hard for the show to top the Blackbeard announcement … at least to us.
“Gilmore Girls” updates – While Netflix has still not confirmed that they are reviving “Gilmore Girls” with four 90-minute episodes, we do think that it is happening based on the buzz that is out there. Not only that, but almost everyone seems to be game to return. We already heard that the core cast would be back, and TVLine now claims that it is “likely” that most important faces from over the show’s run will make at least an appearance, with Melissa McCarthy being a little bit of a wild card. (We’re going to be happy if you get Liza Well and Jared Padalecki in some form.)
