‘Mr. Robot’ streaming rights go to Amazon

The folks over at Amazon have to be doing cartwheels somewhere in their corporate offices right now: After all, the entire first season of “Mr. Robot” has been picked up by them for streaming. Starting next spring, viewers in America, Great Britain, and other territories will be able to catch up on the show before it premieres on USA in the summer.

In a statement confirming the news today, Amazon Vice-President of Digital Video Content Acquisition (seriously, a long title) Brad Beale had the following to say:

Mr. Robot is one the most compelling new dramas on television … Rami Malek delivers a mesmerizing performance and leads a great cast with an intriguing story full of dark twists.”

Could this be one of the moves that helps to ensure that Amazon gets even more traction as a streaming destination? In our mind, there has yet to be a single show acquired by them that has benefited from it in a way that some shows like “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead” have benefited from Netflix. We just find that it has an easier-to-use platform and a wider array of programming at the moment, and of course our preference is always going to be there thanks to everything that they have given us so far.

Still, we’re going to have some more news when it comes to “Mr. Robot” very soon; regardless of where the show lands when it comes to a streaming platform, there is so much more story to mine.
