2015 Emmys: Andy Samberg musical opening features Nathan Fillion, Kerry Washington, more

The 2015 Emmy Awards (or any Emmy show, for that matter) is made by the presentation, and obviously Fox did everything in its power to ensure that the show would be something worth watching. That included hiring Andy Samberg to be the host this year, and he of course began the proceedings with something that he does very well: A musical opening.

Samberg led the way for a star-studded musical number that was basically mocking the fact that there are a billion different shows on TV. He was joined by Kerry Washington, Jon Hamm, Nathan Fillion and more as he sang about every different show that is possibly on TV … including more than 40 shows that are all about wives. Yep, that is a pretty true statement. It was cheeky and fun; while Samberg is probably not the harshest comic in the world, he comes from the Jimmy Fallon school of entertaining. He plays characters, has fun, and makes other people feel comfortable.

His monologue was a little all over the place, but that is a part of why he was great. After all, there were references to the Blondie comic, a chat about racism, and also how the nun of “Game of Thrones” (played here by Jane Lynch) will yell at anyone who goes late in their speeches.

Of course, there was also the obligatory Donald Trump joke, but Samberg livened things up by also bringing in a Bernie Sanders joke, as well.
