‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Supernatural’ season 11, ‘The Walking Dead’ top Twitter chart for fall TV
For those of you who are wondering what shows are really the most popular on social media, the folks over at Twitter have taken it upon themselves to do a little bit of sleuthing.
The company released a new infographic today detailing some of the shows that are getting the most tweets leading up to the start of the fall season, and there is a new #1 compared to last season: “Grey’s Anatomy”! The Ellen Pompeo series drew 2.2 million tweets, which we figure is for the most part thanks to how the show is going to move forward after losing Patrick Dempsey from the cast. “Supernatural” was #2 on the list with 2 million tweets, which is no surprise given how social-media savvy this show’s fans tend to be. Meanwhile, last year’s champion “The Walking Dead” was third with 1.9 million tweets.
Twitter also released a ranking for “new” shows, but the two five (“American Horror Story: Hotel,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “Scream Queens,” “Heroes: Reborn,” and “Supergirl”) hardly feel new at all. One of them is technically the fifth season of a returning show, another features a popular comedian, two are remakes / revivals of existing brands, and then there’s “Scream Queens.” It is at least an original show, even though it features executive producer Ryan Murphy and many familiar actors from his arsenal.
Of course, what will be interesting to see is if these shows end up being the most-discussed during the season. The biggest shock to us is that despite being the biggest hit of this past season, “Empire” was not in the top 5 for returning shows.
