‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 19 review: Was Stephen, Derrick, or Claudia cut before finale?

We wish that we could say that we saw the eliminated on the first part of tonight’s “MasterChef” finale coming in some capacity. We have to really blame Fox for this.

For some reason, the network decided to put out a promo recently hyping up the upcoming finale, and if you looked closely enough at it, you could figure out pretty easily that it was Stephen who was eliminated in third place. Maybe you cannot argue that after seeing the results of the cooking in this episode, but we’re still fairly sad over it given that he was the biggest character this season. Then again, maybe he and Leslie can go hang out in the “huge characters sent home in third place” club.

We do still like how the show somehow manages to wrangle together an extremely impressive array of people for these final competitions; they really do get chefs from all over to stop by! Derrick won immunity thanks to the first part, which left Stephen and Claudia for that last pressure test.

As far as a final two goes, though, can you really be that depressed as a viewer? Both of these cooks are really strong, pretty likable people who have dominated most of the season. Also, both would bring something new to the pantheon of other great winners we’ve had over the years. We’re typically pretty good at figuring out who gets to this point, but we’re not so great at calling champions. We could see either one of them pulling it off.
