‘Gotham’ season 2, episode 1 video: Who knew Barbara was so good at phone numbers?
Our continued coverage of “Gotham” season 2 continues with a new sneak peek below from Monday’s season premiere, and one that sends another cold reminder down our spine that Barbara Kean is not someone you want to mess around with.
Through much of the first season, we lamented this character for being boring, and for the writers not really giving her anything of interest to do. Was turning her into a psychopath something that was always part of a plan? We have a hard time thinking so, given who Barbara is within the world of the Batman comic books. However, this is so much more entertaining, and Erin Richards has to love getting this sort of material.
The summary of this sneak peek (first posted by TVLine) is simple enough: Even though she is at Arkham Asylum, Barbara is leaving neither Jim nor his new girlfriend Lee (who she attacked with a knife at the end of last season) alone. Apparently, she is a master of remembering phone numbers, and has no problem harassing them whenever she can.
Now, let’s take a minute to complain about Gordon lying to Lee at first about this. Since he is a police officer of all people, shouldn’t he realize that this is a stupid thing to do? The rampant lying by TV characters remains a personal pet peeve, if for no other reason than that it’s pointless.
As a result of these calls, Lee’s suggestion to Gordon is simple enough: Why not run off somewhere? He says that he cannot do to something that he’s done, and this is where we are left off for the time being. We’ll just have to figure out where the story goes from here.
