‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ interview with Joe Biden is moving, compelling TV

Late Show -Do some of the comedy bits on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” need to be fleshed out a little more? Probably, but if you ever needed any specific verification as to why Stephen was hired by CBS, we got it with his interview with Joe Biden.

One of the calling cards for the longest time with David Letterman was that he was one of the best interviewers in late-night. While there were times he seemed relatively apathetic towards celebrities, he would be engaging, disarming, and real in his chats with people who genuinely interested him. Colbert was all of these things and more in his interview with the Vice-President.

First, he was unafraid to tackle difficult issues, whether it be the recent death of Biden’s son or the role that religion plays in his life. The two went far deeper on the subject of life and death that we are accustomed to seeing on any talk show, let alone one that aired in late-night.

Even after that first part that was clearly very emotional, the two were able to change gears still for a second part of the interview that was much more lighthearted and funny, as the two were able to chat more about politics, what it means to be the Vice-President, and also whether or not he is ready to announce a Presidential run. He declined to do so, knowing that he was not able to say that the election would have his whole heart and his “whole soul” just yet in the wake of everything that is happening to him.

You can watch both parts of the interview below. It’s a great reminder of how skilled and nuanced Colbert is. He’s funny, but he’s also something much deeper.
