‘The X Factor’ UK: Hannah Marie Kilminster drama; latest ratings
We are starting to feel almost like this could be a recurring series of articles here at CarterMatt: Questioning whether or not “The X Factor” media circuit is making too big of a deal out of a contestant having a past performing in front of an audience.
Last week, it was chatter about the amount of performing that girl group 4th Power had done in front of an audience and on other international TV shows … which of course the producers were very well aware of when they came on this show to perform. Now, we’re talking about Hannah Marie Kilminster, who was presented to us as a 30-year old farmer who had a hard time getting the encouragement she needed to bring her career to the next level.
As it turns out Kilminster also has a history performing, and even was a backing singer on another Simon Cowell-produced show in “Britain’s Got Talent” years ago. This of course has led to headlines proclaiming that she is a “fraud” is phony, which leads to us begging the question: Can’t she be a farmer and also a professional singer here and there? Also, do you seriously believe that the producers did not run a background check on her? We feel like she was probably more than forthcoming of her history, but to the producers it’s so much more interesting to bill her as a farmer.
In the future, though, here is what we wish the show would consider doing: Telling both stories of her as a farmer and of her having gigs here and there. The public is going to find out anyway, so why not try to not vilify someone who has done virtually nothing to deserve it?
For those wondering, Sunday’s show drew 6.6 million viewers, a nice increase from last weekend that may be enough to keep the press from ringing the disaster alarm for at least a little while.
