‘Saturday Night Live’: Demi Lovato, The Weeknd join Tracy Morgan, Amy Schumer shows
“Saturday Night Live” had already rounded out their roster of hosts for the first three shows of the season, but to go along with that, they’ve also now confirmed who the musical guests are going to be.
If you did not hear, Miley Cyrus is going to both host and perform the show’s October 3 opener, so that has been taken care of for some time. Meanwhile, the Amy Schumer show on October 10 is going to feature a performance from The Weeknd, while Demi Lovato is going to perform on the October 17 episode hosted by Tracy Morgan. Both of these artists performed at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, and will be making their “SNL” debuts as solo artists. (The Weeknd did previously appear as support for Ariana Grande when she performed on the show.)
Will we get a chance to see either one of these performers appear in any sketches? Lovato may be the more likely bet, given her experience on the Disney Channel and in a wide array of roles. However, at the same time we could see that show focusing mostly on Morgan, who is making a huge comeback after nearly losing his life in a car accident last year. (His friend James McNair passed away as a result of the accident.)
Right now, “SNL” is starting to finalize their roster for the new season. They’ve already hired one new featured player, but for the time being they have not announced any notable exits. Given that they’ve been rebuilding, we do not expect anything substantial to change.
