‘Penny Dreadful’ season 3 spoilers: Patti LuPone returns in new role; ‘Dexter’ alum also aboard
If there is a show that can pull off casting the same actor in a new role just one season after their previous part came to a close, it is “Penny Dreadful.” This show excels in the weird and the fantastical, so we have no real issue with the fact that the show is making such a bold move and bringing back Patti LuPone for a new series-regular role. She will play this time Dr. Seward, an American therapist who decides to treat Vanessa (Eva Green) using some unconventional means. She is previously known for playing the Cut-Wife on the series.
Per Showtime’s press release, the upcoming season (premiering in 2016) “will feature several new guest stars, including Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Christian Camargo (“Dexter”) as Dr. Alexander Sweet, a zoologist who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Vanessa; Sam Barnett (2012, Jupiter Ascending) as Dr. Seward’s mysterious young secretary; Wes Studi (Hell On Wheels, A Million Ways to Die in the West) as Kaetenay, an intense, enigmatic Native American with a deep connection to Ethan (Josh Hartnett) who also becomes an ally to Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton); and Jessica Barden (The Outcast, Far from the Madding Crowd) as Justine, a young acolyte to Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney).”
Sound interesting? It’s a nice collection of actors, and that gives us a feeling that there are some great plans in store for the third season. One of the most interesting aspects of season 3 to us is that in the season 2 finale, so many characters were ultimately sent off to different places to do different things. How do you find a way to bring everyone back together … or do you?
We’ll have some more news on “Penny Dreadful” as the hiatus continues.
