‘The Amazing Race Canada 3’ top 5 rankings: A more level playing field?
Throughout the past few weeks in these “Amazing Race Canada” ranking articles, we’ve used a lot of hyperbole to discuss where Gino & Jesse are in the competition. They’ve looked at times almost unstoppable, and if nothing else, they’ve dominated almost every leg in Canada (with the Halifax one being the only exception).
Given that we are spending another episode Wednesday night in India, we’re starting to feel like there is more of a level playing field … and we’re also changing up the top 3 teams for the first time in weeks based on some recent performances.
5. Simi & Ope – They are coming off of their best finish in weeks, which unfortunately for them was still only good enough for fourth place. Ope’s the oldest contestant left, and he also has a physical limitation in that he cannot swim. Unless they have a little luck on their side, it’s hard to envision a scenario where they make the top three (even though we do enjoy them).
4. Brent & Sean – They are tremendous at being in the middle of the pack; they won the one leg thanks to the Express Pass, but we just don’t think they are consistent enough from one challenge to the next to really trust them in the long-term during the competition.
3. Nick & Matt – We’ve had them at #2 for weeks, but sooner or later we do have to penalize them slightly for not winning a leg. Sure, there are cases where teams like Mickey & Pete win despite never taking first in a single leg before that, but it’s rare. They also are probably not as fast as either of the two teams ranked above them.
2. Dujean & Leilani – We’ve been super-impressed with them as of late. For a team of exes (which is something that is usually prone to frequent fighting), they’ve gotten along very well as of late and are one of two teams left with multiple first-place finishes. So long as they can keep their relationship together, they have a skill set that could push them to the grand prize.
1. Gino & Jesse – They’ve had a couple of scares, but they still have won more legs than anyone else and when everything is going right are very hard to beat. A team is going to have to either hit them with a U-turn or get a little bit of luck to see the brothers eliminated. Maybe they could screw up in directions, but it’s hard to see them failing in a challenge.
