2015 Emmys: Will ‘Veep,’ ‘Silicon Valley,’ ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ win Comedy Series award?
If you look back at the past five years of Emmy voting in the Outstanding Comedy Series, it is almost like listening to a broken record. “Modern Family” has won every year, and it has rendered this category relatively boring. It’s a very funny show, but we’ve felt for two years now that it has been time for a change.
Now, that change is almost upon us. We’d be genuinely surprised for the first time if “Modern Family” continues that streak, given that the show is up against a stellar comedy in its last season, a pair of newcomers with heart, and two really great shows from HBO. We’re somewhat divided on what will ultimately happen here, but this is what the point of these articles are! We’re going through a category a day, making our picks and asking for yours.
The nominees
Louie (FX)
Modern Family (ABC)
Parks and Recreation (NBC)
Silicon Valley (HBO)
Transparent (Amazon)
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
Veep (HBO)
Who should win – Nostalgia has us leaning towards “Parks and Recreation,” which really had about as perfect of a final season as you can have. We absolutely loved “Silicon Valley” as well, and maybe we are doing the dangerous thing in thinking that it will have another shot next year. This is what people thought for the Amy Poehler show for years, and now we’re in this place with it. To us, it is between these two.
Who will win – Once again, we’ve got a two-show race. “Veep” is beloved (especially for Julia Louis-Dreyfus), while “Transparent” is the show that has really caught the eye of many in the cultural movement right now towards transgender causes. We’re going to give “Veep” the slight edge, mostly because it is the more established comedy at this point and “Transparent” probably will still get love for Jeffrey Tambor.
Who do you think should take home the gold in this category?
