‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9 spoilers: First look at Sheldon, Amy in premiere
The season 9 premiere of “The Big Bang Theory” is getting set to premiere on CBS come Monday, September 21, and it is pretty clear at this point that when the show returns, they are going to have to deal with some heavier storytelling than we are used to for the Sheldon / Amy characters.
Over the past several seasons, the dynamic that we have become somewhat used to is that Sheldon really gets away with almost everything that he wants. He whines, he complains, and his girlfriend bends over backwards for him. However, the last straw in the finale seemed to be that in the middle of a romantic moment, Sheldon started thinking about whether or not he should get involved in watching the new version of “The Flash,” showing no real care for her in that moment (even if the show is really good and he should’ve been watching from the start). She decided ultimately after more discussion to take a break from the relationship … only for us to learn that Sheldon has a ring.
Are these two going to be able to make something work in the premiere? It’s too early to say that, but the photo above at least makes it clear that they are going to have a conversation. Sheldon is a creature of comfort, and more than likely will struggle try to figure out how to operate moving forward without Amy at his side. It may not be possible to win her back right away, and he better be prepared for that as a possibility.
In the end, it’s always good to see Sheldon in a vulnerable place, and one where nobody else can do the social work for him. This is what will make the premiere fascinating.
