‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: No ‘Off the Map’ connection with Martin Henderson

Grey's AnatomyFor those out there wondering if we were going to see a connection between “Off the Map” and “Grey’s Anatomy” when the ABC show premieres this fall, the simple answer is apparently “no.”

As confirmed now to TVLine, there are no plans whatsoever for Martin Henderson to play the same character on Shonda Rhimes’ prolific ABC drama as the short-lived one that she previously executive-produced. We do think it was a fair subject to speculate about given that “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” are in the same universe, but “Off the Map” was so long ago at this point that the writers probably feel like there’s no real point in even bringing that up.

It also sounds like Henderson will not be on the show until a little later in the fall, meaning that the show will be focusing on some of its current characters before bringing him into the mix. Sure, there’s speculation that he could be a new love interest for Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), but we’re not confirming that. We’ve come to learn time and time again that speculating about a Shonda series is dangerous business since she can easily change things up and surprise you.

We will say that if Henderson does end up playing a love interest, the show is probably doing the right thing waiting for at least a few weeks to introduce him. While over a year has passed for Meredith Grey since the death of Derek (Patrick Dempsey), it hasn’t been that long for viewers. Fans will want to see her functioning as a single woman before a new relationship is even brought up.
