Emmys 2015: Will Lena Headey, Christina Hendricks, Uzo Aduba take Supporting Actress?
Who will win Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards September 20? We really do not know, and that’s what our CarterMatt Emmy preview series is all about! Every day for the next several weeks, we’re breaking down an individual category with some of our impressions, and then also giving you a poll for you to voice your own opinion.
We feel like much of the drama when it comes to this particular category ultimately comes down to one question: Do you vote based off of performance, off of nostalgia, or off of what you consider to be new and hip? These are questions that maybe some Emmy voters out there are wrestling with as we write this.
The nominees
Christina Hendricks, “Mad Men” (AMC)
Christine Baranski, “The Good Wife” (CBS)
Emilia Clarke, “Game of Thrones” (HBO)
Joanne Froggatt, “Downton Abbey” (PBS)
Lena Headey “Game of Thrones” (HBO)
Uzo Aduba, “Orange is the New Black” (Netflix)
Who should win – By far, this is the most intense debate we’ve had over this of any category we’ve done so far, mostly because we’ve got three different people in Aduba, Hendricks, and Headey who were all different in brilliant ways on their shows. We think maybe the consistency of Joan across several episodes of “Mad Men” is what is making us lean in her direction, but this really is teetering on a knife’s edge here to determine a favorite.
Who will win – This is going to be tough for the voters, as well. While Clarke is up-and-coming in Hollywood, we don’t really see this as the year for either her or Froggatt. Baranski’s probably going to be forgotten, and we’re down once again to the same three. Since the Emmys loved Aduba so much last year when she was listed as a guest, and because her show is so popular and stands out so much in this field, we’re going to see that Crazy Eyes is ahead of the race ever so slightly.
