‘Person of Interest’ season 5: CBS still unsure of series’ future
We’ve been slightly concerned about the future of “Person of Interest” for many weeks now, really ever since the show was picked up only for a small batch of episodes, and then pushed back until midseason. Let’s just say now that we are not feeling any better about the future of the series coming out of CBS’ presentation at the TCA Summer Press Tour on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, network programming head Nina Tassler would not confirm one way or another if the upcoming fifth season of the show is going to be the last. Anytime that we hear something like this, admittedly the first thing that enters our head is dread. Typically a network will say something like “we don’t plan on it being the last season” if they are hoping for an extensive future. Maybe we are talking about semantics, but for us hearing uncertainty means that the future is not looking good.
While the show is very good, there are few other reasons ultimately for CBS to keep “Person of Interest” around in the long-term. It is a lower-rated show for them, it is going to get more expensive over time (and it probably already is, given that it films in New York), and they do not have full ownership of it in the way that they do series like “NCIS.” Their own shows are going to take precedence.
Once we do have more news on a possible premiere date and more, you better believe we’ll have updates for you here. Stay tuned!

I really hope they renew it. I didn’t think the rating were bad enough for them to cancel it. They could cancel Under the Dome instead. It has really gotten stupid.
