‘Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp’ premiere: What to expect on Netflix
Let’s hope that you are ready to take a little bit of time off on Friday, given that this marks the streaming date for “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” on Netflix. This is the third new summer series we’ve been excited about following “UnREAL” and “Mr. Robot,” and neither one of those proved to be a disappointment.
We don’t really have much of a reason to be afraid here, either … and neither should you. Whether or not you’ve watched the original movie (though you should, given that it is also on Netflix), we’ve assembled a list of reasons why you should take a look at this prequel to one of the greatest cult hits of the early 2000s.
1. An awesome cast – Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Christopher Meloni, Molly Shannon, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, and many more were part of the original, and before the new series was even picked up by Netflix, the producers made sure that they could get the original cast on board. Because there are so many different cast members, it lessens the burden on any one person.
2. New characters – Some newcomers to Camp Firewood this time around include Jon Hamm, John Slattery, Weird Al Yankovic, Jayma Mays, Randall Park, Kristen Wiig, and so many more. This is a property so beloved, people yearn to be a part of it.
3. Zany humor – The show and the movie are almost a combination of a classic movie like “The Breakfast Club” and then a spoof like “The Naked Gun.” It’s grounded in some ways in reality, and then goes off on ridiculous tangents.
4. The humor – There is absolutely nothing else like it on Netflix or really TV right now, period. Summer camp is such a relatable thing to many people, so going into this world has an element of nostalgia.
5. It’s fairly short – With eight episodes, this is not a huge commitment. There is potential for more of this series, but nothing is guaranteed for now.
