ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8: When will Stana Katic start filming?

We know that the question in the title is one that has been asked by many a “Castle” fan over the past week or so, especially as Nathan Fillion, Jon Huertas, and many of the other cast members returned to Los Angeles to begin work on season 8. Yet, Stana Katic was conspicuously absent.

There really is no scandalous reason for her not being there or anything; it’s really just a matter of her finishing up some other projects, which we understand her wanting to do after being a part of one show for so long. Every now and then, you have to creatively spread your weeks. Fillion is doing the same exact thing with “Con Man.”

Anyhow, Katic confirmed in a post on Twitter early Sunday that she will be returning to set Monday to start work on “Castle” season 8, and she has already had a chance to read up on the first two episodes! Most of the drama coming into the season is going to revolve around Kate Beckett, as she has to figure out the right path for her career moving forward. She has a suggestion that she should enter politics to do more good that way, but there could also be a promotion at the NYPD awaiting her. Given that Penny Johnson Jerald is no longer on the show, it could be very easy to see Captain Beckett next season.

We have to imagine that the premiere (entitled “XY”) will address some of this subject matter, and from there it will continue to play a role through at least the first part of the season. We imagine that the story will still contain some of the signature “Castle” DNA, but still stand out in one way or another from the past seven years of the show.
