‘Madam Secretary’ season 2 spoilers: ‘Crossing Jordan’ alum set to recur
Going into season 2, “Madam Secretary” largely faces one question: How do you make the show appeal to new viewers? What will allow new people to check out the series? While the total viewer counts were impressive in season 1, the series struggled in adults 18-49 on a night in Sunday where CBS had issues almost the entire season this past year.
We’re still not entirely sure what the network is doing to remedy that, but we do at least like that the producers seem to be focusing for now primarily on just telling the best story that they can to please the viewers that they have. It’s a strategy similar to “The Good Wife,” which built up a respectable audience over time (even if it is also low in the demo) on the basis of quality. This brings us to the latest casting news. The latest addition to “Madam Secretary” season 2 is Jill Hennessy of “Crossing Jordan” fame, who will be playing the part of Jane Fellows. She is a calculating woman who works alongside Henry, and will often clash with him to along with that.
In beefing up the Henry story “Madam Secretary” should help establish more balance for the show, and therein also complicate the world of our lead in Elizabeth McCord. Giving her more aggressive challenges this season should help to keep viewers hooked, and the same goes potentially for tying in some events and stories to what is happening at present.
This casting news comes after the recent announcement that former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is scheduled to make an appearance as herself at some point in the second season. The new season of “Madam Secretary” should premiere in August.
