‘The Bachelorette: The Men Tell All’ review: Ben Higgins talks Kaitlyn Bristowe; Ian Thomson’s ‘surprise’
Was there really anything that was interesting about “The Bachelorette: The Men Tell All“? Well, if you enjoy canned footage that is close to the same thing that you see on almost every season of the ABC show, then there was probably quite a bit to like here! There were so many segments that we could telegraph almost to a T: Even Chris Harrison’s comments to Jared Haibon about his facial hair felt completely canned and prepared long in advance.
Of course, the main event was Ben Higgins’ segment, otherwise known as his lengthy audition for “The Bachelor.” It was no coincidence whatsoever that he was treated like a rock star by that audience. Everyone knows that he is getting the gig, so for the time being we are just sitting around and waiting for that to happen. After he was introduced, they still give you a lengthy package that was several minutes long before getting to the interview. Translation? The dude got a ton of air time tonight!
The one thing that was nice to hear from Ben was his side of the story on San Antonio, mostly because something like hiding Kaitlyn in his and Shawn’s hotel room and talking with her all night is something that would happen behind the scenes on a reality show … as would Ben realizing after going to take a shower that he was the odd person out.
Now, let’s get to the other highlights of the night.
Ben Zorn – Sweet guy. Not entirely fascinating to watch.
Jared Haibon – Like we mentioned, we had the whole facial-hair gag. Nothing that interesting going on here.
JJ Lane – Yep, we got an entire segment focusing on a bromance segment that aired on the show more than a month ago.
Ian Thomson – Yep, he’s sorry. Really, that was the only thing he could do unless he wanted to be seen as a jerk the rest of his life.
Kaitlyn Bristowe “hate” segment – LEAVE KAITLYN ALONE!!! That was the tone of this segment. We weren’t really a fan of this idea going in, but we like to a certain extent how it was handled. Chris Harrison read a few social-media messages to show just how messed-up some people are, but thankfully the names and handles were not included. We’re glad that the show is not promoting the cyber-bullies that are out there, and while we did not like every decision she made on the show, this does make you feel for her.
Kaitlyn confronts the guys – We feel like Kaitlyn did an okay job at times here, but let’s face it: It’s hard to justify her telling Shawn what happened with Nick in Dublin, and then not anyone else.
Bloopers – Yep, that happened. Nothing to say here unless you were watching, other than seeing Joe in a pigeon mask.
