‘Hell on Wheels’ season 5, episode 1 preview: What to expect from Cullen’s new journey

Tomorrow, the season 5 premiere of “Hell on Wheels” will be airing on AMC, and it feels rather sad to make you wait until then to actually learn a thing or two more about the story. That is what this article is for! We’re not going to give away anything major, but this seems like a great way to at least start to set up what some of the events could be for Cullen Bohannon, now that he is away from Durant and many familiar faces on the Union Pacific. He will be looking for his wife Naomi, but there is no telling if he will find her.

1. First things first, let’s talk time jumps. Some time will have passed between the end of the fourth season and where we are in the series now. This gives Cullen sometime to prepare for life with the Central Pacific, but not so much that things feel normal.

2. The majority of the first couple of episodes are going to be mostly centered around life on the Central Pacific side of things. John Wirth told us recently that there will be a Durant tease early on, but the majority of the action will be saved for a little later on down the road.

3. One of the most noteworthy new characters you should look out for right away is Chang (played by new series regular Byron Mann). He will be overseeing the work of many of the Chinese on the railroad, but he will also have his hands in many other operations, as well.

Ultimately, this episode is the first of seven airing this summer, and the final seven of the series are coming in 2016. We’ll be back with more coverage tomorrow night (including a review), so be sure to check back.
