‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Michelle Dockery may head to TNT with new pilot

Part of the intrigue when it comes to the “Downton Abbey” cast in the series’ final season is learning a thing or two more in regards to where they are going to go moving forward; given that many of the actors have sought out more representation in America, we cannot say that we are too surprised at all about the latest news coming via Michelle Dockery.

Sources confirm (per The Hollywood Reporter) that Dockery, best known for playing Lady Mary on the ITV series, has been cast and will executive-producer the series “Good Behavior” for TNT. This is based on the Letty Dobesh books written by Blake Crouch. Fittingly, this will yet again be a collaboration between him and Chad Hodge, the executive producer of “Wayward Pines,” another adaptation of some of Crouch’s work. This series features her as the Dobesh character, a known con-artist and thief who is trying to figure out how to keep herself together following a stint in prison. She just cannot keep herself away from the criminal world, no matter how hard she tries.

We wonder if thematically, this series will help to fill the high-stakes heist void left by the end of “White Collar.” We definitely understand what the appeal here could be for Dockery. After spending six years on a slow-moving period piece, this is a chance to be in something very modern, fast-paced, and hopefully fun for her to be a part of. It is a little bit of a risk, given that TNT series rarely experience anywhere near the sort of success that “Downton Abbey” has around the world. We’re personally just glad that one of the stars of the series is actually trying to do more television rather than flying off to do other movies.

The final season of “Downton Abbey” will air in Britain later this fall, and on PBS in January 2016.
