‘The Astronaut Wives Club’ episode 4 preview: ‘Liftoff’ and the Cuban Missile Crisis

Astronaut Wives Club -In many ways, we feel like it would be pretty easy to be dismissive of “The Astronaut Wives Club” as yet another ABC drama series built solely on relationships and juicy twists and turns. While there is a certain element of that to be found still on this series, something you do still have to remember is that there is so much more to this show ultimately. There’s an element of history, and watching people try to do extraordinary things at a time when the United States was trying to show its might in the space race.

Unfortunately, at the same time there are some serious consequences to rising tension with Russia … but there are also some questions as to whether or not all of the characters on this show completely feel that. Next week’s episode is entitled “Liftoff,” and it will focus at least in part on one of the biggest events of the past 60 years.

Take a look at the synopsis below for more details:

“While the Cold War intensifies and the Cuban Missile Crisis comes to a head, the Mercury 7 families begin glamorous new lives in Houston. But Houston also marks the start of the Gemini Project, and with it, the arrival of the Gemini wives, which changes the dynamic among all the women. Marge and Deke embrace new roles after learning about Deke’s permanent status, and Trudy and Gordo’s personal “cold war” begins.”

Obviously, the show is going to continue to try to balance out the historical milestones with personal events; whether or not it succeeds in doing so is all in the eye of the beholder.
