‘True Detective’ season 2, episode 2 reaction: About that Colin Farrell – Ray Velcoro cliffhanger…

HBO logoTrue Detective” season 2 was promoted as an ensemble show, and one led seemingly by Colin Farrell in the role of Ray Velcoro. He is a man who is clearly haunted by his past and not fully able to escape from his demons; yet, he is a good detective. Unfortunately, on tonight’s episode he may have dived a little too deep for his own good.

In coming out of tonight’s episode, we imagine that the question many have is whether or not Farrell is done with the show after just two episodes. If creator Nic Pizzolatto goes through with this, it may be one of the bigger stunners we’ve seen in some time. He is so accomplished an actor that you would assume that he is around forever. Killing off Ray is a big move that would accelerate the story, and prove that our killer is someone who really means business.

Does this mean that you potentially lose a few people looking for star power? Maybe, but this is HBO. We figure more people will stick around if the show is better as a result of it.

Ultimately, there is one concern that you really should have here: That Ray is somehow going to emerge from this and be fine, which could just end up being a terrible trick. If he is still alive, we do hope that there are at least some sort of consequences for what happened. You have to change the game somewhat!
