‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 6, episode 4 review: Charles’ origin story, Emily and Sara, and assorted answers

Pretty Little Liars -Throughout the entire process leading up to the season premiere of “Pretty Little Liars,” executive producer Marlene King has referred to the show as the “summer of answers.” Tonight, she started to truly make good on that claim with a number of reveals.

First of all, Alison’s father Kenneth finally revealed that Charles was in fact a person! He was institutionalized for most of his life, but come close to the end he was presumed dead after his grave was found. From there, the assumption was that Uber A must be someone who was in Radley with him. The asylum is now closed, and that makes finding information all the more chaotic. What we know is that per Kenneth, Charles at one point tried to drown Ali in scalding hot water when she was still a baby.

Relationships – Is something brewing between Emily and Sara? She has certainly had a number of love interests, and this could be another one. Meanwhile, Hanna and Caleb started to hit the rocks a little after she asked for some more space.

As for a different relationship, Aria started to open up to her father finally about some of what she went through in the Dollhouse, while Spencer continues to struggle with connecting to anyone after an especially difficult game Charles put her through when in the Dollhouse.

Conclusion – We feel like we now have a whole lot of information at this point about Charles, Radley, “A,” and a variety of other subjects, but connecting it together is the plan. There were some nice reveals in this episode, but it really needs more than an immediate review to piece them together. This is something we’ll ponder over further during the week. Grade: B.
