‘True Detective’ season 2 actress scores Dorothy role on NBC’s ‘Emerald City’
NBC’s latest attempt at making “Emerald City” happen is a little bit closer to a reality this year. After all, we actually know now who is going to be playing the main character of Dorothy!
Per TVLine, Adria Arjona of the upcoming second season of “True Detective” has been cast in the iconic role, which will be somewhat different in this adaptation of the L. Frank Baum classic. The official logline for the project should do a very good job of making that clear:
“In the blink of a tornado’s eye, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale and her K9 police dog are transported to another world, one far removed from our own — a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before, where wicked witches don’t stay dead for long and a young girl becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands.”
Arjona also has appeared on “Person of Interest,” though this is clearly her biggest role to date. This is planned as a ten-episode event, and if nothing else the prestige of the source material should help to draw attention. NBC has already made it very clear that they are all-in this year when it comes to stories related to the classic book, given that they are also staging a live musical version of “The Wiz.”
The new season of “True Detective,” meanwhile, premieres on HBO Sunday night.
