‘The Good Wife’ season 7: Exec has great response when it comes to network strife
“The Good Wife” is entering its seventh season on CBS, and we feel like for the most part, the show has proven time and time again to have a tremendous relationship with its network. Even though its ratings have never been tremendous, it has never really been in fear of being canceled. Meanwhile, the show has brought in tremendous guest stars, been handed at least a decent timeslot, and also receives a large Emmy campaign and plenty of critical buzz. Sure, there are bumps in the road here and there, but the producers have managed to figure out how to exercise creativity at a time when everything feels so corporate-controlled.
How do they pull off getting what they want, while at the same time making the network happy? As it turns out, there are some ways that you can have you cake and eat it to. Speaking per The Hollywood Reporter recently as a part of a roundtable discussion, show executive producer Michelle King explains how you need to deal with executives:
“You can fight with [the execs], but you have to fight fair. You have to be completely honest with them, because you might be having a screaming fight with them at 10 in the morning, and inevitably at two in the afternoon you will have to call back on a different subject, and you have to work together.”
In other words, you have to check our emotions sometimes at the door, and make the network want to work with you. Even in a bottom-line business, sometimes it is still easy to let some other problems get in the way. It is ultimately a relief to see that this is not happening here, and we’re not getting to a point where CBS feels like the show is not worth the trouble.
For those wondering, season 7 should start filming a little later this summer in New York City, and the only thing that has been confirmed so far is the addition of Cush Jumbo as a major recurring player.
