Critics’ Choice TV Awards 2015: ‘American Horror Story,’ ‘Better Call Saul’ stars among winners
The Critics’ Choice TV Awards are not necessarily a firm indicator of how the Emmys are going to vote a little later in the year, but it is at least a pretty good reflection for the most part on what we think of as quality television. With that in mind, this tends to be one of the awards shows that we really do enjoy!
Today, the ceremony was held and televised on A&E, and we are here to do our best to analyze some of the winners. This is going to be updated over time, so you should have plenty of chances to refresh and see what else is going on.
Supporting Actor in a Drama – Jonathan Banks, “Better Call Saul.” Tremendously deserving, and hopefully this is Banks’ stepping stone to an Emmy win a little later this year. He was nominated recently for the first half of “Breaking Bad” season 5.
Supporting Actress in a Drama – Lorraine Toussaint, “Orange Is the New Black.” Remember when people assumed the category change was going to hurt the Netflix series?
Best Talk Show – “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” A nice send-off for Jon, but why David Letterman was not nominated here is a great mystery.
Supporting Actress in Limited Series – Sarah Paulson, “American Horror Story: Freak Show.” This one makes us very happy, given all of the double-work she did as Bette and Dot.
Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series – Allison Janney, “Mom.” As we’ve said, we could see her winning awards for this show for many years to come.
Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series – TJ Miller, “Silicon Valley.” A great win for a great show that often does not get the appreciation it deserves.
Reality Host – Cat Deeley, “So You Think You Can Dance.” Since she was the host of the show, this would be really awkward if she didn’t win!
Reality Competition Series – “Face Off.” Hey, giving it to a cable show makes it look like the critics are edgy.
Drama Series – “The Americans.” A great award for a series that tends to not get the ratings love it deserves.
Comedy Series – “Silicon Valley.” Hooray! Another testament to a great season.
Actress in a Comedy Series – Amy Schumer, “Inside Amy Schumer.” Her recent comedy reign continues.
Actor in a Comedy Series – Jeffrey Tambor, “Transparent.” Expect this sort of parade of wins for Tambor to continue.
