Jon Stewart cameos in first ‘Daily Show with Trevor Noah’ promo
Is Trevor Noah literally going to inherit every aspect of “The Daily Show,” including Jon Stewart’s famous desk? Based on the first promo for his version of the show (premiering on September 28), you would think that.
Of course, we think that there will be some fun tweaks to the set that take place following Stewart’s exit in August. This new promo is not so much about doing anything crazy to promote the new show; instead, it’s to just give you that whole passing-the-torch feeling. It’s a predictable promo: Trevor gets very used to Jon’s desk, only to realize sooner afterward that the comedian is standing right behind him observing some of the shenanigans.
There is little doubt that Noah has become somewhat of a polarizing force on social media since it was announced that he was going to be the host, but for the time being we’re willing to allow him the chance to show himself as someone with a unique comedic voice. He is a very different sort of comic than Jon, and with that we expect a very different show. He probably knows he has enormous shoes to fill given that this is a guy who wins Emmys like they are prizes in a crane game where you are guaranteed to win something.
In the end, we are very much interested in seeing what Noah brings to the desk and to “The Daily Show” as a whole. Maybe he is a hit, or maybe he flops. There is still something exciting about the mystery of it all.
