‘Community’ season 6 finale spoilers: Who is returning?
For the second time this season, it looks like a “Community” standby is going to be coming back for an episode … but you should probably stop reading now if you want to remain unspoiled.
Still with us? Then you should know via a Yahoo! Screen press release (uncovered over on the show’s Reddit) that Yvette Nicole Brown is going to be back in some capacity as Shirley. It comes during an episode entitled “Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television” (hilarious), which is written by the awesome pairing of creator Dan Harmon and Chris McKenna. It’s unclear what the circumstances surrounding Shirley’s return will be, but you can see the synopsis now: “As their sixth year at Greendale draws to a close, Abed (Danny Pudi) asks everyone to imagine pitching a TV show about what they would do in season seven.”
It’s a great concept for a finale, and it is also appropriate in a bizarre way given that it is reasonably unlikely that this show will be picked up for a seventh season. Sure, many would like to see it, but the reality here is that many cast members are looking at other projects, and that in some ways, it feels right for the prophecy of “six seasons and a move” to be true. Come up with a great script (even crowdfund it if you need to), and then find a way to convince Donald Glover, Brown, the current cast members, and maybe even people like Jonathan Banks and John Oliver to appear in some shape or form.
Ultimately, we’ll see what happens. (We know we’re behind on episode reviews; we’ll make up for it very soon!)
