‘Ink Master’ renewed for season 7; spin-off ‘Ink Master: Redemption’ also ordered
Spike TV truly cannot get enough of the “Ink Master” franchise. More than three weeks before the sixth season of the tattoo competition begins on Tuesday, June 23, the network confirmed that the show already been renewed for a seventh season. This season will be comprised of 16 one-hour installments, thought a specific theme has not been announced yet. As for a premiere date, expect to see this seventh season launch at some point in the spring of 2016.
To go along with this news, how about some news regarding another edition of the Spike TV tattoo empire? The network has also confirmed that there is a spin-off series in the works entitled “Ink Master: Redemption.” This half-hour show will feature disgruntled former human canvases from the flagship show who want some sort of new tattoo that makes up for the poor experience they had the first time. (Then again, what if they just like being disgruntled for disgruntled’s sake? You can’t please everyone.)
In a statement, Spike TV Senior Vice President of Original Programming Chachi Senior said the following:
“With Americans spending more than $1 Billion annually on tattoos, ‘Ink Master’ has definitely hit a chord with viewers and has continued to grow as one of our most gender-balanced original series … The show’s viewers are not only fans of the amazing artwork displayed, they are also invested in the human canvases and what happens when a client leaves unhappy with their tattoo. We have created ‘Ink Master: Redemption’ to help answer those questions.”
The words “gender-balanced” here are pretty important ones, mostly because of the fact that this is a show that stretches beyond just the network’s typical demographic of young men. This, coupled with healthy ratings across the board, is why the network just cannot get enough ink on the air.
