Critics’ Choice TV Awards 2015: Will ‘Better Call Saul,’ ‘Homeland,’ ‘The Leftovers’ actor win Supporting prize?

The Critics’ Choice TV Awards did something that we personally consider to be very kind for their Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category: They did their best to include as much variety as humanly possible. When you look across the full board of candidates, you have three from brand-new shows, one from a show that is over, and then two other actors who have typically been favorites of some awards shows in the past. You have to like variety!

Also, you have to like that for this category in particular, there is not a definite favorite in the bunch. Remember, vote for your favorite to win below!

Ben Mendelsohn, “Bloodline” (Netflix)

Christopher Eccleston, “The Leftovers” (HBO)

Craig T. Nelson, “Parenthood” (NBC)

Jonathan Banks, “Better Call Saul” (AMC)

Mandy Patinkin, “Homeland” (Showtime)

Walton Goggins, “Justified” (FX)

Who should win – This is a really tough choice for us between Banks, who has found a signature character in Mike, and Goggins for the final season of a really great show. We’re probably going to side with Goggins right now when you look at the full season of work, and the amount of material that was given to him. However, we could very well change our mind on this tomorrow.

Who will win – We do think that Goggins is near the front of the pack at the moment, and there are an assortment of different reasons for that. Boyd Crowder is brilliant, but Goggins has been almost the sort of actor that any TV viewer should love: He’s humble, he’s thoughtful, and you get the sense that he puts his all into every performance. Nelson could have more chances to win with his “Coach” revival in the comedy field, “Bloodline” is probably too unknown to some voters, and Patinkin has had better overall seasons.
