‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Is ITV looking for its replacement already?
As many fans of “Downton Abbey” out there unfortunately know already, the upcoming sixth season of the show on ITV is going to serve as its last. The show is probably going to go out with some of its best episodes yet, and we are also sure that the network is going to milk the ratings for everything that it is worth.
At a certain point, though, the network does seem to be aware that they do actually have to move on from the show that has put them on the map internationally. Maybe they are going to do that with a retelling of Queen Victoria’s early years. According to a new report coming in right now from the Telegraph, the network is developing an eight-part series entitled “Victoria” that has some of the same team behind it as “Poldark” on the BBC.
This story is going to focus on Queen Victoria’s early reign, and consequently some of the scandal and troubles that came her way not too long after that. We already think that this does have the potential to be a really intriguing series, especially if it is told in a similar sort of tone that we have seen in “Downton Abbey” over the years. That show has given us a taste on what upper-class life is like for many in Great Britain during the early 1900s, but not in the same manner that this new series is. Royalty is a different sort of experience.
Filming for “Victoria” is slated to take place later this year.
