‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3 spoilers: What could come next for Ward?
Also, we had the cliffhanger of the century for Ward. Brett Dalton’s character seemed to ascend the ranks of Hydra at the end of the finale, and seems now to really be the metaphorical king of the castle. Does that mean that there is nowhere else for him to go but eventually away from the show? Speaking to Zap2It about the future of his character, Dalton admits that his new status is a precarious place for him to be:
“[Having your character die] something that’s certainly the fear of any actor. I’ve had that fear since I started “SHIELD”; it’s a Joss Whedon [show], and I know not all his characters survive. That’s just the reality. I would much rather have him come to end in an interesting way rather than have him just be a fixture on the show that is just kind of there. If it serves the story and it makes the most interesting story, then maybe that’s it. But they’ve been teasing the whole idea of if he’s a good guy or if he’s a bad guy for so long. He is, I guess, officially a total bad guy now, and the head of the bad guys, but I think there’s always that chance. I think what keeps you tuning in every week is there’s still that chance that he might still be a good guy underneath all of that.”
Hopefully, we’re not going to see Ward go away for at least a little while if the end of him is coming up in the reasonably-near future. If nothing else, we do at least feel like his character may go out with a bang if he does leave the show. It’s comparable in some ways to Slade Wilson on “Arrow,” except with another season of development.
