‘Orphan Black’ season 4 official; Tatiana Maslany series renewed early by BBC America

This season, there is no reason to be kept waiting over the future of “Orphan Black.” BBC America has officially announced that they have renewed the sci-fi series starring Tatiana Maslany for a fourth season. As per usual, this season will consist of ten episodes.

While we would be wrong to sit here and say that the series is a huge commercial hit for the network, it provides them with something that they have not had much of in their short time in original programming: Clout. It is a quality series with a quality case, and if Emmy voters were not completely insane, Maslany would have at least two nominations for Actress in a Drama series by now. Somehow, that has not happened.

In a statement confirming the news today, co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson had the following to say:

“We’re thrilled to be moving forward with season four of the Orphan Black saga. Huge thanks to our partners Temple Street Productions, and to BBC AMERICA and Space. We’re extremely excited about where our story lines are going, and look forward to riding the rollercoaster with our amazing fans #CloneClub.”

For those curious, Space is the network that airs the series in Canada, where it is also extremely popular. The show films in Toronto.

As to how long a show like “Orphan Black” can really last, we do imagine it may be at least somewhat more finite than many other long-running cable shows. Science fiction typically works better with a planned ending, and doing this show has to be very exhausting, especially for people like Maslany and Ari Millen. Regardless of how long it lasts, though, we plan on enjoying every second of it.
