Victoria Justice lands first role since ‘Eye Candy’ cancellation on ‘Undateable’
Ever since the news was first confirmed that the Victoria Justice series “Eye Candy” was canceled by MTV, we assumed that it would not be long before she ended up finding work somewhere else. Now, we know just where that somewhere else is going to be.
Justice herself has confirmed on Instagram (see below) that she will be appearing on the upcoming live episode of “Undateable” airing on NBC next week. This is a cool opportunity for her, but also for the show itself to continue to court young viewers. This was one of their ideas behind getting Bridgit Mendler to sign on, given her huge social following and history on TV. Justice can bring much of that as well, and that coupled with airing a live episode could bring in some more viewers. Even though we don’t write a ton of articles specifically about the show, we are a fan of what “Undateable” is doing for the most part and find it to be as great a multi-camera sitcom as we’ve seen in the modern era.
At some point, we do think that we are going to get more of Victoria on TV on a permanent basis. We honestly thought “Eye Candy” would do better than it did, especially given that it had such a grabby name and presence. Ultimately, it just shows that MTV is still a risky network for original programming.
New episodes of “The Voice” will continue to lead into “Undateable” the rest of the season, so it will also have that going for it for at least a little while longer. While there is no decision yet on the future of the comedy, we feel like it is likely to score a renewal.
