‘Hell on Wheels’ season 5 spoilers: ‘Arrow’ alum joins as regular

Given how quiet things have been on the “Hell on Wheels” front the past several months (this is what happens when episodes are being written), we are always thrilled when we get any casting news on the upcoming episodes.

Therefore, we are pleased to present the following. According to a report from Deadline, Byron Mann, who we best know for playing Shado’s father Yao Fei in several episodes of “Arrow,” has been cast as series regular for the final 14 episodes (split up into separate blocks of seven). His character is Chang, a strong and influential businessman / labor contractor with the Central Pacific Railroad. This portion of the railroad relied heavily on the use of Chinese workers, and he controls much of their work and operation.

Production on season 5 officially began just this past week, and you can expect a few different feel when the first seven episodes premiere later in the summer. Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount) has ventured west and is now working with the Central Pacific, while also at the same time still searching for his wife Naomi. The different environment explains in part the addition of new characters; we have already told you about one other guest star who will be heaving a larger role, and how much we see some other familiar faces is to be seen.

Without spoiling too much, the final season will most likely have lofty expectations. Not only do you have to set up the conclusion of Cullen’s journey, but at the same time also find a way to conclude the story of the railroad, which is in many ways a character in its own right. You don’t necessarily have to show us Promontory, Utah, but it would be an awfully nice moment if they make it there.
