‘The Muppets’ spoilers: New adaptation to reportedly be akin to ’30 Rock’
Somehow, ABC and executive producers Bill Prady / Bob Kushell have us extremely excited for “The Muppets” again, and this is without even seeing where they are going yet with their upcoming pilot presentation. Part of it us due to the affection that these two have for the characters, while part of it is also our own childhood love for the Muppets over the years.
According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, the two are planning to make their adaptation of the classic Jim Henson product a little more adult than some recent movies and TV products, which is really just going back to the basics of the TV show since it was a little more adult then what has been put out lately under the “Muppets” name. It will have a tone that is similar to “30 Rock” and a mock documentary style that may remind you of “Parks and Recreation.” The focus is to turn the Muppets into fully-fledged characters, and give you a very different sense of who the likes of Fozzie and Kermit the Frog are in their personal lives. Just take a look at the tentative logline:
“The Muppets return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that—for the first time ever—will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages.”
We don’t expect the show to become a serious romance or anything, but we like the idea of them taking chances and trying to appeal to a wider audience. At the moment, we are hyping this up in our heads quite a bit, but we know that we won’t be let down. This is the Muppets after all!
