‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2, episode 18 review: A stormy Skye

Skye -Tonight, some of the “Agents of SHIELD” cast members were probably able to get a little bit of room to breathe, and for one simple reason: Tonight was very much about Skye and her preparing for the next stage of her life. This meant having some father time with Cal, only before things got truly crazy and her plan to leave was interrupted by the likes of Hydra.

At the moment, it feels almost like Skye is the show’s version of Helen of Troy. Everyone wants her for one purpose or another. Gordon and Lincoln have their motivations, while of course Coulson wants to protect her and eventually use her as a valuable asset moving forward. The problem in the midst of everything is that we’re not entirely sure Skye has been able to figure out just what she actually wants.

Ultimately, it was Gordon who swept in and took her away from the scene of such great carnage. What we also learned through this is that Bobbi and Mack have possibly the worst timing ever, given that they showed up far after all of the fun ended. This did set up the great cliffhanger at the end, where Coulson asked to be “taken to their leader.”

At this point, Phil is able to read the tea leaves: While watching people jockey for position is entertaining, it does not protect them from the real danger of the world. With Hydra rising once again, it may take both sides of SHIELD to team up, help Skye, and secure the future. Grade: B.
